Show Your Love By Sending Flowers to India
How can you express your feelings when words fail and actions are not possible? How can you show your gratitude when you and your special someone are worlds apart?
After my undergrad thesis was over and all we needed to do was prepare for the upcoming graduation in the summer, our class arranged a lecture series by a known engineer who hailed from India. He was a very old man, his back hunched a bit and his olive skin wrinkled and dry. He was an expert in one of the important processes in our program major and he willingly accepted our invitation since he would be staying in the country for a couple more days before going back to his country. We invited our department’s faculty members and other students and during the lecture, the old professor would happily share his experiences in the field. But the morning and afternoon lessons were not the thrilling part.
During the nights, our class would be huddled around him, beers in our hands, while he would be sipping his tea and animatedly recalled the days when he was still a young student like us. He’s not very fluent in English but his way of speaking was soothing and good enough to understand. On his last day, each of us expressed our gratitude for the knowledge he had imparted.
The class thought that our verbal appreciation was not enough. So we sent bouquets of flowers to India to welcome the professor upon his return. Gifts to India were not enough to express everything but at least it somehow conveyed the feelings that came with it.
